What is abandonment of employment

Here is a classic statement from the Fair Work Commission.

…. ‘abandonment of employment occurs when an employee walks off the job or fails to attend after a period of absence, in such a way that the employer is reasonably entitled to conclude that the employee no longer intends to be bound by his or her contract of employment’.

The applicant had been dismissed, the Commission found that the dismissal was unfair and ordered that compensation be paid.
