What can an employer deduct from wages? Part 1

Section 325 of the Fair Work Act provides that it is a contravention of the Act for an employer to  directly or indirectly require an employee to spend any part of an amount payable to an employee in relation to the performance of work if the requirement is unreasonable in the circumstances.  Sub-sec 2 provides that the Fair Work Regulations may prescribe the circumstances in which such a requirement is or is not reasonable, however the Regulations are silent on this issue. In Western Australia the Truck Act 1899 used to prohibit an employer from making any unauthorized deductions from wages, but that Act was repealed in 1996.
