Payment of Union dues from employee’s remuneration

Although the Fair Work Act 2009 aggressively restricts the deduction by an employer of payments from an employee’s remuneration, whether wages or salary, or commission, it is permissable, with the appropriate authority, to deduct payments for trade union membership fees (hardly surprising given that the Fair Work Act is Australian Labor Party legislation driven into law by then Minister Gillard in the first Rudd government), insurance premiums and the like. Payments to the employer are not permitted.
