Long service leave for casuals in Western Australia

It is not as well understood as it should be, but in Western Australia casual employees are entitled to long service leave.  The qualifying periods are the same as for permanent full time and part time employees but the basis of the calculation for the amount of long service leave and payment during it is determined in accordance with the following formula;

“where the normal weekly number of hours have varied over the period of employment of a full‑time, part‑time or casual employee the normal weekly number of hours of work shall be deemed to be the average weekly number of hours worked by the employee during that period of employment (calculated by reference to such hours as are ascertainable if the hours actually worked over that period are not known)”; see sub-sec 4(2)(c) Long Service Leave Act 1958 (WA).
